ONTASC brings arts programming and teacher development
into the same classroom
bridging the gap between
schools and community resources

ONTASC works in cooperation with local universities and K-12 schools to bring quality arts education and social-emotional learning to the forefront of education. We empower students right alongside teachers, providing them both with the tools they need to succeed together.
ONTASC addresses an inherent need in schools for both intra and interpersonal learning through writing, storytelling, music and performance. We address the rising need for technology training in schools through audio and video (A/V) media production classes. By bringing supplementary programming into the classroom, we expand opportunities for economically disadvantaged students, and increase academic outcomes.
ONTASC programs support Common Core State Standards in writing and integrate art and technology into existing standard education models. Our unique approach to learning breathes new life into the classroom, and guarantees low student-to-teacher ratios via our pre-service teaching internships, while simultaneously providing professional teacher development for in-service teachers. Program reports, brochures, videos and more can be found on the digital storytelling page of this website. ONTASC offers nine other creative arts and literacy programs, including portrait drawing, culture & diversity, creative writing, ELL/SPED and music production.
ONTASC programs operate from a cooperation model wherein all participants benefit - students, pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, parents and community. One of our partnering teachers at Ruch Community School, Cindy McDonald, explains it best: “My students are now exhibiting more openness and acceptance in lecture, discussion, and trying something new. They take turns well. They don’t interrupt or criticize as often. It’s as if the trust built in the project has had a carryover in their relationships to each other, to me, and their academic learning. They’ve continued to respond to each other openly and with respect - with a playfulness borne of trust.”
